Noble Peace Speech

To think young Albert didn’t speak until age three.

In 1945 in front of the delegates of the Noble Peace Prize luncheon. Einstein delivers a poignant speech on the failure of the atomic bomb to deliver peace. Einstein is particularly troubled by the lack of attention given to the Jews.

Einstein acknowledges the moral dilemma faced by the physicists who were involved in the creation of the atomic bomb. He draws a parallel with Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, who created a means of destruction but instituted the Nobel Peace Prize as a way to atone for it. Einstein expresses that the physicists who participated in the creation of the atomic bomb feel a similar responsibility and guilt for their role in creating such a dangerous weapon.
